Many facilities offer refresher courses for nurses and other types of healthcare providers (even IT specialists) that have earned their degrees and are looking to get into the healthcare work industry for the first time or are looking to further their career in some way.
Refresher courses will not only provide you with more insight and guidance into your chosen profession, but it will let potential employers know that you are serious about your career and that you want to do the best job that you can. Furthering your education is an excellent way to ensure potential employers that you will perform better than the average employee.
Volunteer at Local Facilities
Another way to catch the eye of potential employers is to volunteer at local facilities that provide at least basic healthcare services. There are many places that welcome volunteers who have the right credentials to work in their settings. You may be able to find volunteer opportunities at facilities such as:

Your volunteer work does not have to exactly match the kind of work you want to do as an employee in the healthcare industry. However, it should somehow be related. If you want to work in a hospital, virtually any kind of work you do as a volunteer should impress potential employers. However, if you want to work in a hospice, you should narrow your volunteer efforts to place like nursing homes that will give you hands-on experience with the tasks you will be challenged with while working in a hospice environment.
Practice Interviewing Beforehand
It is a good idea to practice interviewing with prospective employers before you start going to actual interviews with them so that you feel confident and prepared during your official meetings. First impressions mean a lot, so if you go into an interview feeling insecure and unsure of yourself, chances are that the potential employer will pick up on it and they may interpret the nerves as an inability to perform job functions at a high level.
